Frequently Asked Questions About Our Porcelain
  • Who is behind feinesweißes?
Behind feinesweißes is Berlin-based designer Katy Jung. Together with a small team, she designs and creates timeless porcelain objects in her own workshop in Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district. Every piece combines thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship and everyday functionality.
  • Is everything made in your Berlin workshop?
Yes. Every feinesweißes piece is made in our own workshop in Berlin – from the first porcelain casting to the finished object. Casting, finishing, glazing, firing and decorating all take place on site, allowing us to maintain the highest quality throughout every step of the process.
  • Can I visit your workshop?
Absolutely. Our showroom is directly connected to the workshop, so you can discover our collection and, depending on the day's production, even catch a glimpse of how our porcelain is made. You're welcome to visit during opening hours or arrange an appointment.
  • What is the difference between ceramics and porcelain?
Ceramics is the general term for objects made from clay-based materials. Porcelain is one of the finest and most durable types of ceramics. Fired at very high temperatures, it becomes dense, strong and exceptionally long-lasting while maintaining its delicate appearance. That's why we work exclusively with porcelain.
  • Why do you work exclusively with porcelain?
We love porcelain for its refined feel, timeless beauty and exceptional durability. It combines elegance with everyday practicality and is made to be enjoyed for many years. Our aim is to create objects that last – making porcelain the perfect material for our work.
  • Why has porcelain been valued for centuries?
For centuries, porcelain has been admired for its elegance, durability and exceptional craftsmanship. Its fine texture, luminous white surface and lasting quality have made it one of the world's most treasured materials. At feinesweißes, we create porcelain objects designed not for passing trends, but to become lasting companions in everyday life.
  • How is a porcelain piece made?
Each piece begins as liquid porcelain, which is carefully cast into plaster moulds. It then goes through numerous handcrafted steps, including drying, finishing, sanding, glazing and multiple firings at temperatures above 1300°C. From the first casting to the finished piece, the process takes several days and weeks.
  • Why does handcrafted porcelain cost more than industrially produced tableware?
Handcrafted porcelain is not made on an assembly line. Every piece is cast, finished and fired by hand in our Berlin workshop, in small batches rather than large-scale production. The value of our work lies in the combination of high-quality porcelain, skilled craftsmanship and the time each piece requires.
  • Is every piece unique?
Yes. Although many of our products are made in small batches, every piece is finished by hand. Slight variations in shape, glaze or decoration are part of the handmade process and make every object unique.
  • Is your porcelain suitable for everyday use?
Absolutely. We design our porcelain for everyday life. It combines refined aesthetics with exceptional durability, making it perfect for daily use – from breakfast to dinner and every occasion in between.
  • Is your porcelain dishwasher safe?
Yes. Our porcelain is fired at very high temperatures and is generally dishwasher safe. To keep your favourite pieces beautiful for years to come, we recommend treating them with care and avoiding heavy impacts.
  • Is your porcelain microwave safe?
Yes. Our porcelain is generally microwave safe. Any exceptions will always be clearly stated on the individual product page.
  • How should I care for my porcelain?
Porcelain is easy to care for and made for everyday use. Most marks can simply be cleaned in the dishwasher. For unglazed surfaces or occasional stains, we recommend using a melamine sponge or a gentle porcelain cleaner.
  • How long does shipping take?
Ready-to-ship items usually leave our Berlin workshop within a few business days. Custom-made or currently unavailable pieces may require additional production time. The estimated delivery time is always shown on the relevant product page.
  • Can I collect my order from your showroom?
Yes. You are welcome to collect your order free of charge from our showroom and workshop in Berlin. Simply select 'Local Pickup' during checkout. We'll let you know by email as soon as your order is ready.
  • Do you create custom-made porcelain pieces?
Yes. Alongside our collections, we also develop bespoke porcelain projects for private clients, businesses, hotels and restaurants. Whether you're looking for a custom design, a limited edition or a special gift, we'd be happy to discuss your ideas.
